  6. The files contained in this archive ONLY contain the new SWAG snipets since
  7. the  last release  which will  be  added  to your  existing .SWG  files. NO
  8. changes will be made the your existing snipets.
  9.  
  10. Follow these instructions EXACTLY to update your SWAG packets (.SWG files).
  11.  
  12. 1. Unpack the archive to a temporary directory on your disk. This directory
  13. really should be empty so that you can erase it when you are finished. Once
  14. the snipets  have been added  to your SWAG  files, you will  not need these
  15. files any longer.

  17. 2. Copy the new file READER.EXE to your permanent SWAG directory. Overwrite
  18. your  previous copy  of READER.EXE.  You  can  also copy  the new  SWAG.EXE
  19. (add/delete snipets) and the new SWAGV.EXE  (list headers in .SWG files) if
  20. you desire.

  22. 3. If you are using SWAG for WINDOWS, also copy SWAGWIN.EXE and SWAGWIN.HLP
  23. to  the proper  directories. The  release version  should be  1.03. The EXE
  24. dated 11/30/95 is NECESSARY to correctly  find all of the new snipets added
  25. since the previous  release date. So, even if  you already have SWAGWIN.EXE
  26. version 1.03, you should use the one included in the distribution.

  28. 4. From DOS, execute the program  SWAGYYMM.EXE where YY is the current year
  29. and MM  is the current release  month. This program is  safe to execute and
  30. will give you  instructions. It will look at your  disk for the location of
  31. .SWG files. The  files need to be somewhere on  your PATH statement, or you
  32. can set the SWAG environment variable :

  34.                         SET SWAG=c:\fullpathname
  35.  
  36. Make sure that  it is correct. If it  CAN NOT find any files  then you will
  37. have to  enter the path you  want. Each of the  SWAG snipets are serialized
  38. so, you do NOT have to worry about running this program multiple times. The
  39. packets will ONLY be updated ONCE.

  41. 5. All  new SWAG snipets  will be  added.  SINCE THERE IS  A COMPLETELY NEW
  42. VERSION  of the  SWAG file  format, the  files may  also be converted. This
  43. might add about 8 minutes to the entire process, but this is necessary, and
  44. will GREATLY improve the overall performance of the SWAG package.

  46. When finished,  you can delete the  files in the temporary  directory. Make
  47. sure  that  you  have  copied  the  new  READER.EXE  or SWAGWIN.EXE to your
  48. permanent SWAG directory first.

  50. 6. Switch to the directory containing READER.EXE and execute it. To see all
  51. of the new packets just added, use  the GREP function (F2) and enter JUST a
  52. BLANK LINE.  The READER know what  the the LAST distribution  date was, and
  53. will find  ALL SWAG snipets  AFTER that  date.  The same applys  if you are
  54. using SWAG for WINDOWS.

  56. You MUST have  .SWG file listed and be  pointed at one of them  for this to
  57. work. Maneuver around your disk until you have your .SWG files listed. This
  58. will  search ALL  .SWG files  for everything  AFTER this  date. ALL  of the
  59. snipets just  added will be displayed.  See the DOC file  for READER.EXE to
  60. find out about the GREP function in more detail.

  62. 7. Try  out the new SWAG.EXE  and SWAGV.EXE utilities included.  These work
  63. just like  the popular archive programs  that you've been using  for years.
  64. Just type SWAG at the command line, and you'll get the syntax. SWAGV.EXE is
  65. a program that will give you listings  of your .SWG files. It is completely
  66. redirectable from the DOS command line. Try them out.
